Metalsmith . Artist . Wife . Mom.

Welcome! My name is Gay’l Yocom, the designer, creator, metalsmith behind Good Mourning Dove.

I handbuild all my jewelry here in my home studio in Colorado. Naturally, being a Colorado native, my love for the mountains, grasslands and all the beauty of the West shows through in my work. It is a huge part of who I am as a craftswoman, wife and mom.

I am a grateful, blessed, imaginative soul. I have always been a maker and collector of God’s gift of nature. I’ve been a rock hound since I could walk. My joy for jewelry making started when taking metalsmithing classes in high school. Finally returning to that passion in 2014, by taking a 4 day metalsmithing basic class and then self taught smithing after that. I construct my pieces with raw sheet metal, wire and semiprecious stones. I have a particularly spirited love for American turquoise. I create predominantly in fine and sterling silver but also forge with copper, brass and gold. All my work is forged by my two hands. Even down to the ear wires.

I put my heart and love into all my work. When I design and build my jewelry, I imagine the piece speaking to someone in particular. It warms my heart to see the connection in their eyes and the reaction on their face when a buyer finds that special/meaningful item in my handcrafted collection. It’s a wonderful thing.
